Can you imagine going to the doctor and the professional you trust your life with you google your illness? Sickle cell is an internal illness that affects the blood stream. Most of the time the pain is internal allow other around you to question the validity of your pain.
Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network (SCTPN) has launched its sickle cell website so that teams and individuals can sign up to register for the 13th Annual 10k Walk-a-thon. Go to www.sctpnwalk.org to sign up for the Annual Sickle Cell Walk in Central Park to help raise awareness for sickle cell disease, thalassemia and other blood disorders. Because people (largely children) with SCD are at an increased risk of infection and other health problems, early diagnosis and treatment are important.
SCTPN offers support to those who struggle with sickle cell disease and other blood disorders through referrals, education, patient advocacy, and financial support. There are many ways for the community to be involved and help the fight against these diseases.
Reach out to secure up to ten team members to walk with you; sign up to do the walk as an individual; volunteer to help walkers and sponsors, or if you can’t be in attendance, sign up to donate. Gear up for the 10k walk coming this Fall, September 24, 2011 at West 67th Street and Central Park West.
There are still sponsorship opportunities available. Don’t miss out on the chance to support a worth-while cause. One time donations are welcomed – as are reoccurring monetary gifts. All contributions are tax-deductible, and proceeds benefit the education and awareness programs of SCTPN.
